We aim to make axe throwing as accessible as possible to people of all abilities. Obviously we are constrained to the limitations of each specific location, but if there are no barriers there we will help everyone to throw as best they can. In the past, Pete has taught people to throw who were blind, in wheelchairs and with various mobility issues.

As with any skill, some people pick it up quicker than others, but most people get the hang of it within a session - at least enough to have a good time, if not the next world champion!

Obviously, throwing axes is potentially hazardous, but as a worldwide sport, accidents are very rare. Somerset Axe Throwing put safety measures in place to reduce the risk of any harm, and it is important for throwers to stick to the rules for everyone's safety.

We don't recommend drinking alcohol in excess before or during your axe throwing session.

Essex Axe Throwing reserve the right to refuse a person to throw if we feel they are too drunk to be able to throw safely

So, you enjoyed your axe throwing session and are keen to do more. We recommend finding a local league or axe throwing club (unfortunately there are not many in Somerset yet) or even build your own target (there are some ideas for target building here)

We recommend wearing closed-toe shoes (in case of dropping an axe), and heels are a bit tricky.
Otherwise, there are no special requirements - lumberjack shirts are optional 🙂

Yes, we will expect to arrive about one hour before the session start time to set up and allow a similar time to take down the targets

If you don't have the space yourself, you could try hiring a venue. You would need to ensure that the venue is happy for axe throwing to take place. We are happy to provide them with any information they need, eg our public liability insurance details

We are happy to cater for groups of any size, but obviously if a group is larger there will be more waiting around. If the axe throwing is part of a broader group event, eg people are eating, drinking etc then a group of 20-30 is ok with two targets.

If the group is focused only on axe throwing (and why wouldn't they be :)), then we recommend no more that 7 for each target (ie max 14 for two targets)

Yes, we are happy to discuss larger groups with you. As standard, we only provide two axe throwing targets, but we could build more targets for a particular event. Obviously there would be an additional charge for this.

Yes, but we are Essex based and our prices are based on travelling only within the county. We would consider travelling out of the county and could quote for appropriate travelling costs.

Yes. We have a different model for fairs. Rather than pay per session, we charge each thrower for a set number of throws. That way they have the fun of a few throws and we can serve a greater number of people.

The minimum space needed for one target is 6m x 1m

The minimum space needed for two targets is 6m x 2.5m

NB: this is just the space needed for the targets. You will also need additional space for spectators
